This Tribute is supporting Parkinson's UK. Parkinson's is a progressive neurological condition. This means that it causes problems in the brain and gets worse over time. Around 153,000 people live with Parkinson’s in the UK mainly aged 50 and over, it is thought that it will affect 1 in 35 people, and it's the fastest growing neurological condition in the world. It can take many forms and the symptoms can vary between individuals. We don't yet know exactly why people get Parkinson's but at present there is no known cure. Researchers think it's caused by a combination of age, genetic, and environmental factors that cause the dopamine-producing nerve cells to die. Parkinsons can take away quality of life, it does not directly cause people to die, but the condition can place great strain on the body, making people more vulnerable to serious and life-threatening infections and dementia.
